Originally from Cootamundra, Australia, McLaren joined the USRowing coaching staff in December 2008. He is the open weight men's head coach. All totaled, he has more than 30 years of experience as both an athlete and coach. He describes the job of a coach as “summarizing the key points. It’s very difficult to take in information when you’re under physical stress so you have to keep it simple.”

While growing up in Australia, McLaren spent his winters playing rugby and his summers surfing. Team legend says McLaren once faced off with a great white shark on the coast of Australia. He won.

Before joining the Men’s National Team as interim program manager in February 2011, he was head coach of the men’s crew at the University of Southern California.

Johnson earned a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of California-Berkeley. He also won the Dean Witter Award in 2006 for embodying the spirit of Cal Crew.

Originally from Sydney, Australia, Kiosoglous took care of the coaching duties for the men’s quadruple sculls at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
